Self Help Is It A Placebo?

July 24, 2017

When I first started my journey into the self-help and development space, people used to laugh at me. They would tell me things like “self-help books are for people with no self-esteem” or “those are pie in the sky books telling you that you can do anything, you can’t”. Now, those same people are reading the books I recommend because they do change lives. For that reason in this article we will be discussing the topic of self help and how you can use it as a drug addiction treatment portland or

Self Help Is It A Placebo?

The way I see it, and the way countless people have described it, we all come from nothing and are born hopeless, weak, and dependent on our mom and dad for survival. We are born into a world that is constantly trying to kill us and what doesn’t kill us certainly does make us stronger. We need constant monitoring for the first few years of our life and once we begin to realize that life is a never ending cycle of problems, we get hit with even bigger ones. So, some people give up and stay at a certain level the rest of their lives, and others choose to break the barrier and continue elevating until they reach the top and are looked upon by the world. So which one do you want to be?

Self-help can be labeled as a placebo effect, but there’s no pill that one is taking. If we were talking about any pills at all we would compare it to the red pill that Neo takes in the Matrix once he is ready to accept the truth. Self-help books, courses, and other teachings show us the reality of life; that we all have the same potential and that unless we choose to take control of our own lives and direct it to means of our own choosing, we will continue to be slaves to someone else. Once we realize that we have everything we need inside of us, we stop blaming others, we stop being scared, and we choose to take a risk. For some people the biggest risk is to stop being comfortable for fear of the unknown, but the unknown is where all great achievement lies. If you start delving into self-help never stop because this is the only help that will be worth wile.

In conclusion in this article we discussed the topic of self-help and how it affects and has affected lives across the world. Some people may consider it a placebo effect, but there aren’t any pills involved. What you’re doing when you become involved in self-help is reshaping your mind and changing your thoughts to more constructive and positive ones. There’s a real science behind this because it all starts in the mind. If you believe you can’t do something you won’t, but if you believe you can you will find a way. Because we are human and forget very easily and we are still controlled by feelings, self-help is something you have to study often for it to have the change you are seeking.
